Automatic client updates

The heart of Matterping: every time a matter reaches a new stage, the client hears about it in plain English.

Stage templates per matter type

Set up the stages for each kind of matter (purchase, sale, remortgage, probate, divorce and so on) once. Every new matter starts with the right stages already in place.

Plain-English wording for every stage

Each stage carries client-friendly copy: what the stage means, what happens next, and roughly how long it usually takes. Written once by your firm, reused on every matter.

One click to update the client

When a stage is done, a fee earner clicks Complete and the update goes. You can adjust the "what happens next" wording for this client before it sends.

Add or skip stages as you go

Matters rarely follow the script. Insert an extra stage or skip one that doesn’t apply, and the timeline stays accurate.

Template edits never rewrite live matters

Wording is copied onto each matter when it opens, so improving a template later never changes what an existing client was told.

Complete without notifying

Internal admin stages can be ticked off without messaging the client.

WhatsApp, with text message backup

Updates go where clients actually look, with sensible safeguards built in.

Approved WhatsApp business messages

Updates are sent as WhatsApp business messages approved by WhatsApp, in your firm’s name.

Automatic text message fallback

If a WhatsApp message can’t be delivered, the same update is sent by SMS, once, so the client still hears.

Client channel preferences

Clients who prefer text messages get text messages. Clients without WhatsApp consent never get WhatsApp.

Quiet hours

Updates completed in the evening are held and sent in the morning, so nobody is woken by their solicitor.

Delivery and read receipts

See whether each update was sent, delivered and read, right on the matter.

One open matter per number

Each phone number has one open matter at a time, so every reply is matched to the right file.

Replies and the inbox

Clients can reply to any update. Those replies never get lost.

Replies filed to the matter

A reply is matched to the client’s matter automatically and the matter is flagged as having an unread reply.

Shared inbox for anything unmatched

Replies that can’t be matched (a new number, a closed matter) go to an inbox where staff can assign them in one click.

Instant acknowledgement

The client gets a short reply confirming their message has reached your team, so they aren’t left wondering.

Complete conversation history

Every update and reply sits on the matter in order, with who sent each update.

Pulse client feedback

Short Yes or No check-ins at the moments that matter, with an alert whenever a client is unhappy.

Yes and No buttons on WhatsApp

Clients answer with one tap. On text message, they simply reply Yes or No.

Your questions, your timing

Choose what to ask and when: a number of days after the matter opens, or after it closes.

Every No alerts a reviewer

The moment a client says No, your nominated reviewers get an email, and the client is asked what could be better.

Needs review queue

Every No waits in a review list until someone marks it handled, with a note of what was done.

Results across all matters

See the percentage of Yes for every question across all your matters, and every conversation where a client said No.

Switch off for sensitive matters

Turn feedback questions off for any matter where they wouldn’t be appropriate.

Questions firms ask

Can we write our own wording for each stage?
Yes. Every stage has its own client-friendly explanation and "what happens next" text, written by your firm. You can also adjust the wording for one client when you complete a stage.
What happens if a client doesn’t have WhatsApp?
They get the update by text message instead. Clients can also choose text messages as their preferred channel.
Can different departments use it?
Yes. Create departments, put staff in them, and each person sees their own departments’ matters. Admins see everything.
Do clients need to download anything?
No. Updates arrive in WhatsApp or as a normal text message. There is no app, portal or password.
Is it part of Message.Legal?
Yes. Matterping is part of the Message.Legal ecosystem alongside LegalQuotes, the instant quote and enquiry platform for law firms. How they fit together.
